Which is your favorite book in the Bible? Have you ever read in the Bible? I love to read in that powerful book, meditate on statements I find interesting and then apply it to my life.
Many think only the New Testament is relevant for our life today, as it mostly applies to our lives in the new covenant. (I don’t want to focus on the topic of the covenants here.) What I love about the Old Testament, how it’s filled with crazy stories, and it’s sometimes hard to believe that these stories are actually mentioned in the Bible. Some examples: Men having several women, wives not being able to bear children ‘replaced’ by their servants for this role. Many people being murdered. What I think is funny and sad at the same time is, that in this day and age, the world isn’t actually less crazy.
God showed His love, guided His people and was faithful when everyone was evil and no savior had been there. God wanted to be with them, He wanted to be in their midst. Today, after Christ died at the cross, God still is with us and has a plan to rescue His people.
After reading through Exodus I came to the following conclusion:
The teachings Moses got a long time ago, I can apply to my life here and now:
- God tells Moses that He sees the need of the Israelites. // God loves and cares about us.
- God tells Moses that he is the called for the task. // God wants us to work in a partnership with Him.
- Moses asks God “Who am I…” Exodus 3:11 // We doubt our skills are enough.
- God said: “I will be with you…” Exodus 3:12 // God promises that He is faithful.
- Moses doubts; “I am the wrong person, what if they don’t believe me.” Exodus 3:13 // We still can’t believe that we are the right person.
This goes on and on, God tells Moses His plan and what will happen. At one point Moses suggests: (Exodus 4:13) “Pardon your servant, Lord. Send someone else.” After all God had promised, explained and shown to Moses, he still doubted and had no trust in God nor in himself.
I can totally see myself in the position of Moses. There are so many times where I doubt and don’t believe I am the right person. I then feel like a “Mosesian” and not like a Christian. I have come up with the word Mosesian to show to whom I actually belong because of what I call myself: a Christian. I belong to Christ, I follow Him and trust in His word. I want to tell you what I have learned for my life and what I think we can apply from the story of Moses. (From this chapter… I am sure there is a lot more.)
- God still qualifies the called.
- Don’t doubt you are the right person. Trust God. He qualifies you!
- We still bring the same excuses as Moses did:
- “Who am I?”
- “What if they don’t believe me or listen to me?”
- “I am not qualified for this.”
- “Send someone else.”
- Moses walked through the desert and was prepared for His task.
- We also might have our deserts of preparation where we have to walk through. It might look plane and dirty. Embrace it and trust God that He knows what He is doing.
In all his doubts and fears, God asked Moses: “What is that in your hand?”…
God used and prepared Moses with what he already had. I want to ask you the same:
“What is it in your hand?”
God will use your gifts and talents how they are right now. You might need to practice them to get better but never doubt you couldn’t do something for God’s Kingdom. Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt. He was a faithful servant who once was determined to die in the Jordan, but by the grace of God he was found and God had a way greater purpose for him.
Read Exodus 3-4 and ask God where you are at. Is it the desert you are in? Do you have to recognize what is in your hand? Do you need the identity that you are a Christian and belong to Him? Do you need to open your eyes for what you are called for?
I ask you to trust God, for He is with you and always will be.
