The Who

Sometimes you have to let go of a person, an idea or a dream. This week I had to let go of some fears. I always remind myself that nothing bad comes from God and fears aren’t meant to fill my head and heart. As I am a human being I can’t always resist fighting those fears.

The Acknowledgement

Before you can let go of fears you have to name them. You can’t fight against something if you don’t know what it is. If you have a headache you take pain killers against the pain. So you named the headache pain. That’s how it works with fear. When you think of a topic and it makes you nervous, you need to figure out what is behind your fear. you need to name it in order to fight it. What I learned this week if that sometimes it is better to name a fear, and not fight it. I know i said the opposite above but i believe this is a much better approach: When we are brave enough to name the fear we can or should give it to God instead of fighting it ourselves. I think that we can’t even fight it.

The Fighter

When a house is on fire, you call the fire brigade and they tell you to leave the house as fast as you can. Don’t try to fight the fire yourself. They have the gear and training. You only feel the heat and the fear that something bad could or that something bad is happening.Leave the place and trust the pros. So many times when it comes to personal fears in our lives we think we are the best to fight them or the opposite, stay away from it instead of facing it. We aren’t. The result is that we become desperate, helpless or isolate ourselves. It also has to do with trust. God, I believe, knows how to fight against those fears. We just have to decide to let him fight for us.

“Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?”

Matthew 6:27, The Bible, NIV

The Peace

What I experience this week is that giving God the opportunity to fight my fears gives so much peace. Well, God gave me peace. He replaced my fear with peace.

The Step

How can you give your fears to God? You fight another fight, it’s called “The Prayer”. Everything you can and have to is to pray. This lets God do the fighting. When you start to surrender everything in prayer God can take over the battlefield.
