The Purpose

Some people say what I believe doesn’t make sense. I thought about why it makes sense to me to follow Jesus. On one hand it is His death which sets me free and on the other hand it is the life he lived.

How many times have we heard the statement: “Jesus came to die for our sins?” That is actually true. Jesus died not ever having committed any sin, so that we can live a life of freedom. It is God’s grace that saved us through the death of Christ. BUT! In my opinion Jesus came to live as an example to us and then as a bonus He died to forgive our sin. How frustrating would it have been otherwise? The only purpose of living is to die? Death as the only meaning of your life? Oh no, please not. This idea sounds awful.
Jesus was born as a human and died as a human. His life was totally different to every other life that ever was on this planet or ever will be. His death impacted every life on earth (if you believe in Him or not but at some point you have to think about it) but the way He lived his life has changed and impacted nations – always.

“Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see.”

‭‭The Bible, Hebrews‬ ‭11:1‬, NLT‬‬

So why do we always rather focus on His death than taking an example on how He lived His life? Don’t get me wrong, His death is the reason why we can even have a relationship with Him and it is His death that allows me to get into His presence. But it is His life which shows me how I can live. The way He talked, the way He loved and the way He obeyed.

When we start to change our view whilst keeping in mind what has happened at the cross, we start to change and impact the nations. It might start little – as it did for Jesus. It took Him 33 years to grow into what was His purpose. These 33 years and mostly the three years of ministry, is what helps us even today.

You can make a difference by the way you live your life. It is not only about the fact that we die at some point. I have heard some people say: “You have to die eventually”. True – but don’t live your life like this. Don’t live with this as the one and only goal, talk like there is no greater meaning of life or forget what it means to love. It is all about a life of meaning and purpose – exactly how it was with Jesus. With His death He fulfilled what He was preaching. Pure, forgiving and sacrificing love for everyone.

One last thought.

Yes, Jesus died but he also rose from the dead. You know why? To live! He is alive.
“And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.”

‭‭The Bible, Romans‬ ‭8:11,‬ ‭NIV‬‬

In Him we will forever be alive. Jesus is the source of life. If you feel meaningless, spiritually dead or not seeing a purpose in life – connect with the one who conquered death. Start to live again!
