How do you think can the first fruit change the moment of being with nothing?
It can basically save your life.
Picture a farmer. If he only harvested a field but forget to sow it, it would be his first and last harvest.
The first fruit could be:
- First salary of the year; don’t get new clothes, invest in the Kingdom of God
- First moments of being awake in the morning; quit Instagram and open the Bible app
- First month in the year; I have a friend who spent the first month only for God
- You think of first fruits in your life
That is how it is when we start to give God our first fruit. Look at the picture above. This hand seems to be huge in comparison to the berry. Imagine giving God your first fruit, would you be ashamed if it was only the size of the berry pictured? Well, I would be. Often we refuse to do even this.
I believe why God wants us to give him our first fruit is because in His hands we can be sure that when our field is empty, He already knew where to sow and grow a new field for us. When we refuse to give Him our first fruit, we basically say that we know better where to plant the seeds of our first fruit. What if we forget to sow? What if we were wrong and another field would have been better? That is why God wants our first fruit. I believe it also is a sign of trust in him–that even if it means giving everything I have at the moment, I believe it is better in God’s hands than in mine.
Whatever your fist fruit may be, I believe that trusting God starts in our hearts. When you think about it, I’m sure you’ll come to the conclusion that it makes more sense to give to him rather than believing you know better. I am sure that the moment will come where you realize that the field is empty – that is the moment where you think back: How did you invest what was given to you?
“14 Again, it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted his wealth to them. 15 To one he gave five bags of gold, to another two bags, and to another one bag, each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey. 16 The man who had received five bags of gold went at once and put his money to work and gained five bags more. 17 So also, the one with two bags of gold gained two more. 18 But the man who had received one bag went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money.”
The Bible, Matthew 25:14-18, NIV
The Parable of the Bags of Gold came to my mind. You just read the beginning of it.
God blesses us, what do we do with this blessing?
