The Talk

Why do you pray? What do you expect when you pray? Is it just a monologue or a conversation?

The Question

How many times do we ask God for something? We ask him for everything. Should I do this, should I go there or you think of something. There is nothing wrong when you have quastions but wouldn’t it be a very annoying conversation with someone who asks you everything. I would think that this person is really immature and needs help for everything. (Not that God would judge you but I think we often forget the listening part.) Didn’t God want us to grow and become mature christians? Emotionally and mature in the Spirit.

“All of us, then, who are mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you.”

The Bible, Philippians 3:15, NIV

I think that we have become to “asky”. (That’s a word I just came up with, but I think it really fits here.” This verse says that if on some point you think differently, God will make it clear to you.

The Clarity

Why do we underestimate God’s creativity to make things clear to us? Why do we think that we have to have a checklist with things we need to know and ask him all the time? Why don’t we trust him who says that he will make it clear? Exactly the same person, God, father, Lord, Savior and most loving has a plan for you. Why shouldn’t he guide you in making clear to you what you should know?

The You

Often times we forget that our relational God not only sees the plan he has and wants to accomplish with us – he sees us. A person. No, not only a person – his beloved child. God is interested in you, your thoughts and desires. When was the last time you have told him what you think. Does he know your desires, your plans, your dreams? I’m convinced that when we pray it’s a conversation. It can even turn out into a discussion. But it’s not meant to be a monologue. God cares about what you think and want to do. He would never force you to do something. He might know what would be best, but if you don’t want to, you don’t have to.

Last week I first asked him, if I should “do” something. Then I realized that I play a part in this relationship as well. And I think I heard God asking me: “Do you want to do it?”

Recently I’ve heard a quote which perfectly fits here:

“It’s not the what and how you pray that matters to God, it’s the who prays to God that matters.”

Be aware of who you are. Love yourself. Put aside your immaturity and ask God to help you grow.
