The Provision

When I went to the Philippines over a year ago, I knew that it wouldn’t be easy. Not only because of the different culture and the climate but mostly because of my health. I can only eat gluten free food. So when I left Australia I knew that I wouldn’t be able to eat gluten free food for two months. I prayed to God that He would provide food. Long story short: All I ate was rice, mangoes, meat and bananas. And eggs. Two months. For breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Did I starve? No. Did God provide? YES. Was it the provision I expected? NO!

When I needed money this year I prayed for a job. I finally found one. Was it my job of the dreams? No. Was it a job I could earn money with? Yes. Did God provide? Yes. Was it the provision I expected? NO!

What does God’s provision look like in your life?

What I have realized is that when God’s provision isn’t what we expected it to be, He uses it to give you something better. It is a platform where he can show you what real thankfulness is. To not only be thankful when God gives you a lot. But to be thankful for everything. And to make the most out of it.

What does it mean to make the most out of God’s provision?

    1. Thank God for it.
    2. Receive it as a gift.
    3. Adjust yourself to the situation.
    4. Ask yourself what you can do with what was given to you.
    5. Focus on God not on yourself.
    6. Be a “gift” to others.
    7. Be excited for what comes next
    8. Thank God for it.

God’s provision might not always be the most comfortable, fancy, fulfilling or luxury one. I would say it’s none of those on the outside. But it’s the best for your heart, relationship to God and maybe a testimony to others.

“Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?”

The Bible, Matthew 6:26, NIV
